What is the cost of car painting at Shepherd & Kime? The cost of car painting varies depending on the amount and extent of the damage to the car that requires painting. To provide a completely accurate quote, we must see the vehicle to evaluate what’s required to repaint it to a high standard.
Do you provide free quotes for repairs? Yes, we provide free quotes. Please either use our online service for a quote, or better still, come in to see us between 11am and 1pm Monday to Friday, so we can view your vehicle and provide a quote.
Can I get an online estimate before visiting? Yes. Please use our online service for a quote. We will try to be as accurate as possible based on the information you supply, but we must reserve the right to evaluate your vehicle in person before finalising your quote.
What factors affect the price of rust repairs? The extent of the rust is the main factor that affects the price of rust repairs. Its location on your vehicle is another large influencing factor. Rust that’s hard to get to, or covers a large area, or is in a structural part of the vehicle, is going to be more expensive to repair than slight rust that’s in an easily accessible place.
Is paintless dent removal cheaper than traditional panel beating? Paintless dent removal is a lot cheaper than traditional panel beating, but it is only for small repairs where there hasn’t been paint damage, or stretching or breaking of the metal in the bodywork.
Do you provide itemised quotes so I can see what I’m paying for? Yes. We give all our customers comprehensively detailed quotes so you can see exactly what is being done to your vehicle, and what it’s going to cost to complete the collision repairs.
Process & Timeframes
How do I book my vehicle in for repair? First you must lodge a claim with your insurance company, which will issue you a claim reference number. Then the next step is to get a quote from us. You can either use our online service for a quote, or better still, visit us in person with your vehicle. We will then contact your insurance company with our quote for their approval to commence the repair process. Once we have that, we will book your vehicle in for repair.
How long does a typical dent repair take? Realistically, the minimum time we’ll need your vehicle is 2 to 3 days for a small repair. Bigger damage equals longer time, but we’ll let you know what to expect.
How long does a full spray paint job take? If we need to fully respray your vehicle after a collision repair, we might need to have your car at our workshop for up to a month.
Can you complete urgent or same-day repairs? We can’t normally repair a car the same day. However, depending on the damage, it might be possible to get it in drivable condition again.
Do you need to inspect the car before giving a timeframe? Yes. We need to see your vehicle and evaluate the collision damage it has sustained before we can give you an accurate estimate of the time it will take to repair.
Do you provide updates during the repair process? At the beginning of the process, we will provide you with an accurate estimate of the time it will take to repair your vehicle.
What happens if extra damage is found after starting the repair? Because we inspect your vehicle thoroughly before submitting our quote for repair, it’s unlikely that we’ll uncover any extra damage. If, however, that does turn out to be the case, we’ll let you know and contact your insurance company to get approval to proceed with the extra work. We definitely don’t want to give you any surprises when you come to collect your car.

Rust & Christchurch Climate
Why is rust so common in Christchurch vehicles? Rust generally depends on the age of the vehicle. It’s not a significant issue for new vehicles unless they’re operating in a damp environment. In that case, we absolutely recommend rust proofing to extend the life of the vehicle.
How does underbody rust proofing work? Underbody rustproofing works by sealing off the metal of the underbody from repeated, long-term exposure to corrosion-causing moisture. Our rustproofing process begins by thoroughly cleaning and, if necessary, sandblasting the underbody of the vehicle. Then the entire surface is coated with a tough epoxy paint.
Can rust proofing help extend the life of my car? Yes, rustproofing will definitely help to extend the life of your vehicle. In particular, if you have an older vehicle that you love and plan on keeping for a long time, rustproofing is definitely worth considering.
Should new cars also get rust protection in New Zealand? Whether or not a new car should be rustproofed depends on where it’s going to be used. If it’s going to be operated in wet environments, like on a farm, then we recommend rustproofing to protect it and keep it in good condition for longer.
What is the difference between rust treatment and rust proofing? There is no difference between rust treatment and rust proofing. They are just two ways of saying the same thing.
